Is there a “plus” in Google Plus because Google can only keep adding functions?
Adding functions is great and all that, but when you separate them into product, then have a “black top bar” which lists 8 entries PLUS a dropdown list PLUS a “even more” entry in the dropdown - and still you have function thats don’t fit in, maybe it’s time for a trimming focusing on the user experience.
I can already ear the comments - I’m not a google expert, they know what they are doing, they are probably many people using every single service, they have UX experts, and so on.
All that is might be true, but for an end user the “google experience” is becoming more and more confusing, and maybe even frustrating. Let’s take some simple examples to illustrate this.
Google Buzz and “share” on Google Plus - what’s the point? At the moment, one goes straight to your public profile while the other does not (yet). But does this justifies keeping 2 separate product for what is at best worth a tickbox?
Then take Google Help, and Google Discussion. Both are online forums, and you need separate accounts. Google Discussions is linked to your Google Profile, Google Help is not. Try to find any other difference besides that - there aren’t. Once again, is it worth keeping 2 separate products for what should be another tickbox??
Google is very strong is adding functions - but not so good in removing them. Maybe with Google Plus deployment this is time the right for a change? Removing or at least deprecating products which are not linked to the Google Profile might be an excellent first step.
