Good idea for backups on OSX
As posted on http://nicolasgallagher.com/mac-osx-bootable-backup-drive-with-rsync/, rsync is a great idea to do bootable backups.
I can only strongly suggest that one buys as many disks as mentionned on the article - you never know when you will need them!
